Please check the section(s) below applicable to you, to view a list(s) of documents and information items we would need to prepare your tax or information forms.
Income Tax & Other Returns
U.S. citizens and Green Card Holders are taxed on a world-wide basis. You should assume any and all income is reportable. If you are not sure about a particular item of income, provide us with information and we will advise accordingly.
A Note on Japan Taxation
Note that Japan taxes certain foreign residents on a world-wide basis. This may depend on how long one has resided in Japan. To understand the residency rules and filing requirements, we recommend that you check the information provided at the NTA's dedicated webpage in English, linked here.
A United States person must file a Foreign Bank Account Report (FBAR) if that person has a financial interest in or a signature authority over any financial account(s) outside the United States and the aggregate maximum value of the account(s) exceeds US$10,000 at any time during the calendar year. There is a noncompliance penalty starting at $10,000 per form for non-filing, late filing or incomplete filing.
Non-US persons who do not have a U.S. social security number (SSN) need an Individual Taxpayer ID Number (ITIN) when filing a U.S. tax return, or investing in U.S. businesses or investments. The ITIN application process can be a frustrating experience and we can assist with this.
